Instead of moving the needle in a back and forth motion, try moving in an overlapping "C" shape. I get smoother welds doing that. Great project and video.

You can use that left over scrap to make Welding Table Hole Bit Pattern Welded Damascus steel billets, which you can then use to make decorative clamps for the table. It's not like it's more over-engineered than other stuff you do...

As others have said, increasing the current will allow you to get more heat into the weld zone, creating puddle sooner, hence laying in filler rod sooner/faster, hence less overall heat into base material and less warping (also saving shield gas).

I battled the hole saw diameter issue in the past. I found the issue with the cheap hole saws is the tolerance on the bore that holds the pilot drill and runout of the cheap drill bit they come with. When you tighten the set screw it offsets the pilot to one side causing the hole saw to make the hole slightly bigger. I have a lathe so I bored the pilot hole of a cheap hole saw to a tight fit on slightly larger bit and used a quality drill bit. The holes were much closer to spec, I also trimmed the diameter of the cutters to fine tune it once the runout was solved.

It's nice to see someone that took on a personal project and actually completed it with this much complexity and patience. 3 years went into the making of this and honestly this personal achievement of yours proves to me, that long-term projects aren't failures. Regarding your designs, they're quite meticulous and your machining skills are impressive. One can only envy you on your accomplishment. Very good job.

I can't remember ever having seen welding shot with exposure that let me see what was happening. At first, I didn't realize that's what you had done, but it's super interesting to see. Now I wish everyone who welds in RUclips videos would do that!

I love how this dude goes so in depth on showing how things work. Like this is exactly how my man brain learns by visualizing whats happening and not just being told or reading from a book.

i love watching these videos but they all make me feel like i am under accomplished in life and went wrong somewhere lol. Like i know i could do this with time but add will get bored adter a month or so. Like i get hyper fixated on stuff for short periods so i can tell you about things like politics, working out, disc golf, rc racing, warhammer, pc gaming, building pcs, Trading in the stock market, hunting, fishing, building fences, house repairs and the list goes on but it would be overwhelming with all the things ive been into over the years and that doesnt even include the sub categories of these things like tools for them all, guns, rods and reels and so on. I seriously think the title jack of all master of none came from people like me who have adhd/ add and get bored of something after a short time.

I think most welding tables are a lot more heavy duty, like solid steel instead of tubing bur if it works for you that's great, I really hope it works well for you. Thanks for sharing that with us.

If you're really trying to improve the aesthetic of your weld. I found using a metronome really helps. 60bpm so you're adding filler every second makes for some beautiful welds

Loved the video! It was definitely too long, (don’t get me wrong I sat through it and love it) but if you broke it into chunks the way Alex Steele does (part 1, 2, . . . . ) I think you’d get more viewership and you could release them 1 day at a time so people Would visit your page more often. The algorithm will like that more. If you choose not to break it down into parts, I’ll still be here watching. You do whatever you think is best :) great content my friend.

Auch wenn ich schon seit 5 Jahren einen massiven Schweißtisch habe und nicht daran denke ihn zu ersetzen, habe ich das Video gespannt verfolgt. Auch wenn die Präzision bei weitem nicht von nöten ist, schlägt mein Ingenieurs-Herz höher, wenn ich sehe wie du versuchst das letzte Zehntel raus zu holen 😍 weiter so!

Why didn`t you produce the template with your CNC? Or drill all the holes with it??

At 6th minute it became obvious that a better way is to use undersized drill + reamer/adjustable reamer to get exact hole size

not great idea to make that out of regular 3mm pipe. to soft and manuvable and flexing do to temperatur. there is a reason why real fixtures uses heavy lasercut steel plating that is machined into spec (not sure of material but atleast 355 or 410). what are the tolerances and pression on the marker tape. think you may just have over done it but not got the results worth the effort, but i may be wrong, but dont think you can trust a marker tape below 1 mm precision. ps think your grinding angle for the tungsten is abit steap, long time since i done it but recall more like 45 deg or so.

It bothers me so much that you need to prefix everything that you're a beginner welder because the welding community has a notorious reputation for ripping into every one of its members. You don't see woodworkers apologizing to viewers for anything less than perfectly flawless work. I understand that there is pride in work and a lot of welding work will come at the cost of life if things go wrong. Just feels like they are not welcoming of new members

Hey professional welder here, by the quick clip at 17:23 it seems like your using too much gas. It also looks like your using a cup size 7 or 8, a general rule of thumb is taking the cup size and adding 2. That gives you your desired gas flow, with a little bit extra for any leaks. Whenever I adjust my gas flow I light up on a scrap piece and if there is no "scratching" noise as the amps slump down, then I know I got the right flow set. If it does still scratch, then it's just a matter of adjusting it up or down and trying again. Initial slump up (or slope) isn't generally something I use, it's annoying when tacking and only useful when you wanna restart on a weld with a bit better penetration. But avoid making the bead any wider right at the start. So for aesthetics basically. 20:42 THIS, it's by no means perfect but these few seconds are how you "should" be welding all the time. The excessive angle of your torch isn't technically correct, but it does reduce penetration and thusly reduce warping. 10-20 degrees from perpendicular is the "correct" angle. 20:47 it's miles better, notice how the weld initially "wets out" smoothly in the beginning and then sort of folds up on itself a few dips later? What's happening is your initially welding with the correct amount of heat in the weld puddle, (THIS, it's not the amount of heat applied, its how hot the puddle is.) for those initial few dips you are welding at the correct speed. But as you were getting started you applied more heat than needed, so you succesfully made use of the excess heat but then failed to compensate (slowing down slightly) when this excess heat ran out. 20:57 use thinner filler wire, I would say a 1,6 would be plenty for this. 2,0 and you sort of have to use another dipping technique in order to not dramatically change how hot the weld puddle is with every single dip of filler. 21:49 If you had extra pipe available I would've tacked them on as a strongback in order to prevent warping, you'd still get some but much MUCH less than you'd expect.

Well, I thought this was a project I could try, but about 5 min in, realized I couldn’t! 😂. Don’t have that selection of tools and most importantly, not nearly enough patience to be that exact! Well done Marius!

Very nice setup tips, I was thinking of something similar but will probably look for a used Magdrill since I live in an industrial city. Your plains make it a no-brainer. I am also a novice welder so I hope that you offer the electrode sharpening guide files for sale...what a time saver that would be.

I was lucky, I just orderd a plate at a local shop with a fiber laser, 100 x 100 with the same hole patern, 15mm thick -> was 150 bucks

I recommend using multiple foot pedals for some controllers and the eye protection can be pivot like a car sun visor but with two points to make it stable and steady when vibrate or hit with something

I never understood why people are so fixated to weld diy welding tables. I'd just weld frame and bolt upper pieces in place, cause it would allow shimming and easy replacing of workarea pieces. After all it's almost inevitable that something bumps surface, it gets heat or damage etc.

Every welder (who's not an engineer btw) would have told you not to use the hole saw. If you watch similar videos on building a welding table you'll find that information and the explanation why.
